Le foulard

"This, Ladies and Gentlemen, is an Art Show, made with love by an idiot."
by Lucy Hopkins (UK)

Le Foulard is a one-woman comedy, where much of the fun is created by delightful unexpectedness. Through a medley of characters, Lucy Hopkins deconstructs the pomposity of the contemporary artist. The Artist starts with a series of characters until the characters start to take over by adoring, confusing and battling one another.

Through parody and humour, Hopkins touches at the core of what it is to be human and at the sharp end of love. Lucy Hopkins' spectacularly honed show about ego, art, and internal conflict earned her a handful of prestigious awards. Now she is bringing her brilliant humour to The Hague - get ready to laugh your socks off!

Trained as a clown at the Jacques Lecoq and Philippe Gaulier schools in Paris, Lucy is an accomplished physical performer, miming, speaking and singing, making the smallest gestures and expressions work for her. After working and directing in a trio of clowns touring Paris, as well as collaborating in a variety of improvisational and clowning work in France, Denmark, and Sweden, Lucy started to develop her solo career. Her second solo show, Le Foulard, opened at the Prague Fringe Festival 2012 where it won the Prague Fringe Creative Award, followed by awards for Best Theater Performer and Best Theater at Adelaide Fringe 2013. Le Foulard has toured extensively with performances across the globe, culminating in enthusiastic responses and critical acclaim.

The best clowns remind us that comedy and tragedy are inter-related and Hopkins embodies this playfulness perfectly and hilariously.

"Hopkins is fantastic" The Guardian
★★★★ 1/2 "High art has never been funnier" The Age (Melbourne)

★★★★ "Gloriously pretentious" Fourthwall Magazine

★★★★★ "A hilariously fragmented hour of physical theater, song and comedy ...  her immaculate movements sizzle with the best child or suppressed energy" Exeunt Magazine

★★★★ 1/2 "Intelligent, poignant, funny and hugely entertaining" Adelaide Theater Guide

★★★★ "Both the analysis of the subconscious disguised as slapstick comedy, and the satire on self-indulgence ... Le Foulard represents a beautiful synthesis of intelligent experimental theater and physical craft, as it mocks its excesses" The List

★★★★★ "This show is best experienced if you are not really knowing what to expect. So stop reading and put it on your must-see list "Prague TV
